The Prince of Wales Set to Attend UN Climate Conference in South America
Prince William is scheduled to attend the United Nations climate conference in Brazil next month, as confirmed by palace sources.
Prince William and King Charles made a joint appearance on Thursday evening at a gathering preceding the environmental conference, which is scheduled to take place in the Amazonian city of Belem.
Father and son were in attendance at the museum gathering, marking an unusual joint appearance at a environmental conference preliminary meeting arranged together with the British authorities.
Climate Leadership Commitment
The King has been a long-time champion of environmental conservation - and Prince William has inherited the mission, with his own climate innovation awards, which will be taking place in South America ahead of the COP summit.
Royal sources have portrayed William's involvement at the forthcoming conference as taking on an crucial position in "climate diplomacy".
Previous Activities
The monarch and his heir, making a joint entrance in the royal vehicle, were introduced to guests including environmentalists, scientists, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and politicians.
This engagement included speaking together with President Emmanuel Macron of France and other global statesmen at the Marine Economy Conference in the Principality of Monaco earlier this year.
Environmental Prize Link
The COP30 summit will align with the prince's own climate innovation prizes, which will finish in Rio de Janeiro the day before he attends the climate conference on the sixth of November.
In recent days the prince referred to the Earthshot finalists as "contemporary champions".
Royal Climate Legacy
King Charles has been a key figure at previous climate summits, delivering the inaugural speech in Dubai for COP28, including the observation: "The Earth does not belong to us, we belong to the Earth".
"I have spent a significant amount of my life trying to alert people to the survival risks facing us over global warming, climate change and species extinction," the monarch informed participants.
